What We Believe

Flaxmere Baptist church is part of the New Zealand Baptist Family of Churches,

We are an Evangelical Christian Church.

Even though as Baptists we are not 'people of the creed', our foundational Christian beliefs are affirmed in the creeds of the early Church and in the traditions of the evangelical Church. This means that we believe in things like the humanity and deity of Jesus, and a triune God.

We are a Baptist Church.

We are part of the New Zealand Baptist family of Churches. Some of the Beliefs that we have in common with other Baptist Churches are:

The true humanity and Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The atonement made on the cross by our Lord for the sin of the world.
The person of the Holy Spirit as the one who sets apart, empowers, and imparts spiritual gifts to the church.
The inspiration of the Bible and its authority in all matters of faith and practice.
Salvation and membership in the Church by faith in Christ alone.
Membership of the church for the regenerate.
The immersion of believers as the scriptural form of water baptism.

As a Baptist Church we believe in Baptist principles such as believers baptism, the priesthood of all believers, the autonomy of the local church and liberty of conscience.

We have our own unique flavour.

Baptist's believe in every Church being independent and autonomous. So as well as our core belief's we also have a unique 'flavour'.

We are a multicultural Church, with a caring accepting family atmosphere. For us, being a "family church" is the church being like family as well as being a church for families.

We are a Church of both "Word" and "Spirit".

We believe that God is active and at work in our community. One of our roles as believers is to see and join in with what God is doing. This means that there as a Church we are actively involved in our community.
